Accessibility Statement

Accessible Patterns Index is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Accessible Patterns Index is partially conformant with WCAG 2.0 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Additional accessibility considerations

We incorportate large text by default, minimal use of colours, images, and columns, and provide tools for users to change the text size and colour contrast. We clearly label links to outside sites that may cause issues for users. We promote the creation of accessible materials and spaces in our community.

Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of Accessible Patterns Index, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for Accessible Patterns Index:

Links to outside websites : Some outside websites where patterns are hosted, might not be as accessible. We provide as many alternative links as we can find. Our goal is to one day be able to host patterns on our website. Please use our feedback form if you encounter issues.

Upon performing a WCAG test, two empty headings were identified: an “accessibility-ready” WordPress theme and plugins were used to build this site. As this site is managed by two volunteers, we do not have an in-house coding team. Nicky is working to learn how to fix this piece of code. Please use our feedback form to report any issues.
