Belhaven Cowl by Ysolda Teague

Cowl has a cushy look and texture from being flat knit in one part in Brioche rib stitch. The second part is knit as a stockinette tube, so it lays flat and narrower around the back of the neck.

Accessibility statement: The main text is black 24pt sans serif and all text is black on a white background. No italics are used. The schematic measurements are written out, and the schematic is labeled with 24pt text. Images have alt text.
The low vision version is tagged to work with screen reading software and have been tested. Images have alt text. Abbreviations are used in the directions, they are defined but may be read aloud oddly. Numbers for multiple sizes are presented as lists of numbers within the text and may be difficult to keep track of when using a screen reader. If this is something you use we’d love your feedback on how we could improve the pattern formatting for screen readers.

Designer’s description: The Belhaven Cowl pattern is written for two lengths, single or double loop and two weights, fingering and DK. Choose to knit it in fingering for a light, airy cowl, or DK for a slightly heavier, cosier option. Loosely knit brioche makes for a snuggly, warm fabric in either yarn weight. Instructions are giving to achieve the length shown and of course you could experiment with longer or shorter versions – just be sure to swatch and check yardage. As the majority of the cowl is worked in brioche knit flat, this is a soothingly repetitive project that would be perfect for someone getting to grips with brioche stitch for the first time. This knitted cowl pattern is an invitation to learn new techniques too. The cowl begins and ends with a stockinette tube that is twisted before the ends are grafted together. The twist makes the cowl easy to wear, toss it on quickly and know that it will always be draped stylishly.
