Ice Crystals by Valarie Olafson

Cowl worked in two color stranded colorwork. A small ribbed border begins in one background color with small snowflakes in the other color, transitioning to reverse colors.

The idea for this cowl came in the winter, sitting at my cabin, out on the prairie, watching the snow fall. With my cat firmly settled on my lap, I watched the falling snow outside the window, as the flakes caught the light, and then spun that light out into the darkness. There are no neighbours for a while, so the only light outside was the light from the house, and shone off each flake as it swirled away. It’s knit with two colours of contrasting, fingering weight yarn.
