“A friend of mine had been struggling for years to start a family, so when she announced she was pregnant, I wanted to design a special blanket for her to celebrate the arrival of her little one. This blanket is knit in one piece, and while not strictly reversible, I chose stitch patterns that would look attractive on both sides, so there is not a clear right or wrong side.

The blanket size is easily adjusted by changing the number of pattern repeats (height) and casting on a different number of stitches (width) in multiples of 8 + 10 (multiple of 8 for the textured pattern section, + 10 for seed stitch border). Finished blanket as written is approximately 33 inches wide and 29 inches high, (84 x 74 cm).

The name of the pattern comes from one of the names my friend and her husband chose for their little girl: Koyuki, which means “little snow” in Japanese.”
