Along a Forest Path Mitts by Anthea Willis

Designer’s description: The forest is changing as winter makes it’s mark. The trees, only a short time ago so full of life, stand skeletal and frozen. Their once vibrant leaves turned brown, lay thickly on the ground, heaped in mounds alongside the pathway that meanders between trees, providing shelter for small creatures that hibernate during the cold months. Not everything is sleeping. Follow me along a forest path, keeping eyes and ears open and you might just spot deer or wild boar, hear a robin sing with joy or scare a hungry squirrel trying to remember where he buried his hazelnut stash! Along a Forest Path Mitts are knit from the top down, the lace pattern creating a decorative wavy edge. They are the simplest of handwarmers, keeping your hands and wrists toasty whilst leaving fingers free for gathering the last of autumn’s mushrooms and nuts (assuming the squirrels haven’t stashed the lot!) Skill level: Easy – perfect for first lace project. Quick satisfying knit for more experienced knitters.
